Career Education Graduate Assistant
Position Summary:
The UWF Office of Career Development & Community Engagement (CDCE) is hiring for the following position:
- Career Education (CE) Graduate Assistant, who will support departmental efforts to connect with and empower UWF students and alumni in their career development and job search journeys.
This role offers hands-on experience in career coaching, program facilitation, and student engagement. Responsibilities include conducting career coaching appointments, delivering presentations and workshops, supporting career programming (including career fairs and special events), collaborating with campus partners, and contributing to other departmental initiatives as needed.
Detailed Job Description:
Student Contact
- Facilitate one-on-one and group appointments with students and alumni on topics including, but not limited to, career exploration, job search strategies, internships, interviewing, and resume/cover letter development.
- Deliver presentations and workshops for classes, student organizations, and CDCE-sponsored programs.
- Engage students through creative outreach methods such as classroom promotions and “On-the-Go” virtual coaching.
- Leverage available technology, tools, and resources to support the specific career development needs of individual students and alumni.
- Review and provide feedback on job search documents using CDCE’s established processes.
Outreach and Events
- Promote CDCE programs, services, and events through social media and other university channels. This includes creating content (e.g., Canva graphics, videos, and reels) and occasionally appearing in promotional materials.
- Participate in and contribute to staff trainings and professional development related to career services.
- Collaborate with campus partners to support career-related initiatives and events.
- Assist in planning, promoting, and facilitating programs, including career fairs, after-hours initiatives, workshops, and other events.
- Utilize Handshake to manage appointments, communications, and event engagement.
Administration
- Follow established procedures when working with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and employers.
- Provide occasional front desk support and respond professionally to in-person, phone, and email inquiries.
- Contribute to the Career Education team’s planning, assessment, and goal-setting processes.
- Assist with research and data collection to support continuous improvement and awareness of career development trends and High Impact Practices.
- Supervise Career Peers or other student staff, as needed.
Support the overall mission of CDCE through additional duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in a UWF graduate program and maintain good academic standing.
- Must register and complete a minimum of 6 hours of coursework per semester (fall, spring, and summer) or be registered for thesis credit.
- Proficiency with standard office software, email, and internet applications.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to understand, interpret, analyze, and process various forms of data.
- Must demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education, Career Services, or Student Affairs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of campus partners and external stakeholders.
- Confidence in presenting to groups and facilitating workshops, including occasional evening programming.
- Experience in creating professional social media content, which can include class assignments.
Salary:
- The anticipated pay is $17.25 per hour.
- The anticipated start date for this position is August 10th, 2026.
- All DAESA Graduate Assistants are required to work 20 hours per week.
- Graduate Assistants will receive a tuition waiver and a divisional scholarship covering 100% of their graduate tuition and associated fees for those credit hours.
- Depending on student availability, this position could consist of a duration of up to 5 semesters. During that time, the candidate must meet the eligibility definitions listed in the University of West Florida Graduate Assistant Handbook. The work hours will be dependent on applicant availability and will be determined in coordination with the hiring official.
